From your hearts to Gaza, Wafa's family & Nursery!

Help me Lama to help Wafa to root her family and re-open her nursery to provide therapy to the traumatised kids in Gaza.

I'm Lama, an Australian of Palestinian origin. Fate joined me with Wafa in my childhood. She is a friend of my mum and now is mine too. I have helped her over the years to survive the different wars, but this is beyond my individual capacity. She has been a great asset to the Gaza community as she is a generous soul who always helps others around her.

This is her story as told by her daughter Maha:

" Every home in Gaza has a story and holds cherished memories, and ours is no different.

It wasn't easy to own a house in Gaza, but after years of hard work, we managed to do so. We bought our first and only property, a beautiful apartment in Tal Al-Hawa neighbourhood in Gaza City. Our dad was so excited that he painted every single wall in that apartment. Over the years, we've created countless memories in this warm space, including those of our young children.

However, on October 7th, our lives changed forever with the start of the brutal war. The series of displacements from one place to another began. We never expected to leave our home in this way.

We left behind everything, including memories, belongings and my dad’s paintings. Sadly, he passed away months before the war; he was an artist and a university professor in the art school who left his marks everywhere.

We left with fear and sadness, not knowing what our fate would be. We only carried some essential official documents. Our home was completely destroyed (image of our collapsed building is shown below), leaving us with nothing but memories and pain.

We had lives: our mom (Wafa) dedicated her life to education and children. She opened a nursery and childcare center in Gaza, which was the family's only source of income for many years. Unfortunately, it was targeted and attacked as well in this offense. It is not yet safe to obtain images yet.

In previous offenses, the nursery provided a psychosocial outlet and support to the traumatized children and their families through play therapy, art therapy, and group therapy. Of note, children with special needs, orphans and disadvantaged were enrolled in the nursery without fees.

Our brother Mohammed graduated from the French Institute with a degree in film directing. He worked on directing several programs, film making and managed web pages of various international festivals. He lost most of his essential work equipment, including his computer, editing device, camera, and a small complete studio after the complete destruction of our house.

My sister and I, along with our husbands and children, lost our homes too and are living together with my mum and brother wherever we are displaced to. Currently, we are sharing the same hardships, daily challenges, and fate.

Gravely we have lost all the basics and now we face the daunting task of rebuilding our lives from scratch. We need to stand on our feet again and establish a new shelter for our family.

Where will your assistance go?
Every small amount will help us rebuild our lives after losing everything, and most importantly, to have a home. Your money will go long way in providing us with shelter and basics, from large items such as mattresses to the family to as small as spoons.

A considerable Part of this amount will also go towards repairing and fixing the structural damage of the nursery, which will help children who are in desperate need of some normal and stability in their lives. The situation on the ground is dire, and the trauma is larger than ever! We need maximum support to be able to get the nursery up and running. Providing psychological support, therapy, and counselling to these survivor children is a lifeline to their mental health and growth. Your contributions will be a salvation for those kids who witnessed more than their fair share of war atrocities and famine crushes. We want to bring happeniss to Gaza's children again!

You can ease the pain and have a role in rebuilding Gaza by supporting our steadfastness and rooting our community. By helping us to withstand this, you are not just supporting our family but also providing hope to our community's most vulnerable, the children.

Your financial aid to us and our nursery project will be one of the greatest contributions to humanity in those dark times. "

Given the continuous displacement of Wafa's family—the sixth time so far—I will receive the funds on Wafa's behalf and then send them to her using different means as circumstances allow. If she is near a bank, I do a bank transfer; if she is near a money transfer agency, I use that, and so on. I will not keep any money raised through this campaign or receive any fees.

Your goodwill will go long way in Gazan's Steadfastness on their lands and in making history.
