Rebuilding Hope in Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa

Donation protected
Hurricane Melissa caused over $25 billion in damage — more than Jamaica’s annual GDP.

Families have lost everything. I’m a proud Jamaican raising funds to help communities rebuild and recover with compassion and care.

Every bit of support helps restore hope.

Who I Am & Why I’m Helping

My name is Moya Wilson, former member of the Jamaica Defence Force, wife of Keith Wilson, a former member of Jamaica’s National Football Team, and sister-in-law of Alicia Wilson-López, former captain of the Reggae Girlz.
I am a proud daughter of Jamaica and now a U.S. Soldier and citizen. Watching the destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa has been heartbreaking. Entire communities were flooded or flattened, crops destroyed, and families displaced.

My family and I have always believed in service whether through sport, leadership, or simply showing up for others. That same spirit of service is what inspired me to create From Yard With Love, a grassroots effort to help families rebuild their lives and restore hope across Jamaica.

I was born and raised in Jamaica, and though I now live in the United States, my heart and roots remain deeply tied to home. The storm left billions in damage, leaving thousands without safe shelter, food, or water.

This effort isn’t part of any organization or government program , it’s personal. I’m working through trusted pastors, teachers, and community members who are already helping families recover on the ground.

Our Goal

is to raise approximately $50,000 USD to support immediate relief and long-term rebuilding for Jamaican families impacted by Hurricane Melissa.
How the Funds Will Be Used
The funds will be withdrawn directly by me through my verified bank account on GoFundMe. From there, they will be used to purchase essential supplies both locally in Jamaica and in the United States, depending on availability and cost efficiency.
Items purchased in the U.S. such as food, hygiene products, and school supplies will be shipped directly to Jamaica through a trusted shipping service.
In Jamaica, I will be coordinating directly with a local church contacts from the Montego Bay Open Bible Church as well an elder from Thornton, a rural Saint Elizabeth area that most don’t know or won’t be able to recognize. This ensured safe and equitable distribution of food, water, clothing, and school supplies.
All donations will go toward relief and rebuilding for families and small communities impacted by Hurricane Melissa.
• Home Repairs & Shelter (about 40%) – Roofing materials, plywood, and tarps to help families rebuild safe homes.
• Food & Clean Water (about 25%) – Non-perishable food, bottled water, and hygiene supplies for those in need.
• Children’s Education (about 15%) – School uniforms, books, and backpacks for children returning to school.
• Farmers & Small Vendors (about 10%) – Seeds, tools, and restocking help so families can restart their livelihoods.
• Community Recovery (about 10%) – Cleanup projects and other needs identified by local contacts.

*These percentages are flexible and may shift as needs change, but all funds will stay focused on helping families rebuild and recover.*

Why It Matters
Jamaica’s greatest strength has always been its people — resilient, caring, and united.
Even a small gift can rebuild a roof, restore a meal, or send a child back to school.

This isn’t charity , it’s family helping family.
If you’ve ever loved Jamaica, visited, or have roots there, please stand with me to bring comfort, stability, and hope back to our island.
