From Within - Art Installation for Love Burn

FROM WITHIN

There are slices in time that fix themselves to our memory. Each one a sliver of our story. Our lives are colored and shaped by these moments. In the darkness, these moments can recede into the shadows. It is often in this darkness that we discover the light we hold within us. And by that light we find who we truly are both because of and beyond the moments and memories.

This piece is 10’ tall x 40’ long.

The hanging prisms are 8’ tall and 15” wide.

At sunrise, the sun will create long shadows against the form of the piece as it rises.

During the day, colorful prisms will sway in the breeze. We can push on them to make them create a wave action down the line of prisms as they’re all connected to each other.

At sunset, the sun will create more shadow shows as it sets.

At night, the chaotic colorful front panels will recede into the darkness as the lights within the prisms begin to glow, illuminating the side panels revealing messages on either side of the piece.

In 8 foot tall letters of light: YOU ARE ENOUGH.

On the other side: IT’S ALL OK.

Imagine walking along in the dark and then discovering these messages 40 feet long and 8 feet tall 10 feet in the air.

My hope is that someone who needs to hear that message will happen upon it and allow their heart to open to that truth about themselves; that they will understand it is their very own light from within them that will reveal that truth.

This will be installed at Love Burn, the regional Burning Man event in Miami, FL February 10-13.

I feel so honored that this idea flowed to me and asked me to bring it into the world of form. I have experienced so much deep and effervescent joy in each moment serving this piece. It has taught me so much. So many friends have jumped in to help me imagine it, understand it, and refine it. Every friend who has touched this project has influenced it in some way. It has been so much fun to see the light of their consciousness refract and capture another part of what this project wants to be.

FIRST QUICK PROTOTYPE

When the idea first flowed to me, I stopped what I was doing, went to Target at 9pm and bought a Jenga set and chalk to create a quick prototype. I loved it and couldn't wait to see it come to life.
