Four months. That's all that stands between me, a Palestinian student, and the heartbreaking possibility of abandoning my master's degree in World Politics and International Relations at Perugia University...
My ability to complete my degree and contribute towards a better future is threatened by a financial obstacle. Despite losing prior financial support due to the challenging conditions back home, I've maintained excellent academic standing and even completed two work placements.
In the hallowed halls of Perugia University, where the echoes of historical wisdom reverberate through the cobblestone corridors, my academic journey unfolds. I am Ahmad Al Khaldi, a Palestinian 26-year-old dedicated scholar navigating the intricate realms of global affairs, my pursuit of knowledge has been both a personal aspiration and a commitment to contributing meaningfully to the world.
The past two years have seen me delve into the complexities of international relations, despite the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in my homeland. In the realm of academia, my efforts have borne fruit—a commendable overall average of 28 through all required exams with dedication and determination, and the successful completion of two work experience placements. I now stand at the threshold of completion, facing the final requirement: the composition of an impactful thesis.
My tuition, previously underwritten by my family members, now stands at a precarious crossroads. With the lost financial support I once relied upon due to challenging conditions back home, where my family struggles to meet the basic needs of life, I find myself unable to meet the financial demands of the university within the stipulated timeframe.
Compounding this challenge is the limitation imposed by my visa status, restricting my ability to work beyond 20 hours per week. While I was contributing diligently as an English language proofreader to sustain my daily living expenses—covering rent, sustenance, and transportation. Now I find myself dedicating all my time to crafting a thesis worthy of completion, ensuring I graduate on time and avoid incurring additional tuition fees. As a result, the burden of tuition and daily living expenses remains an insurmountable hurdle.
The gravity of the situation has been punctuated by repeated notices from the university, urging immediate payment. Despite my appeals since September 2023, the university's patience has reached its limit. With only four months remaining until the conclusion of my master's program in July 2024, the specter of withdrawal looms large.
Should this financial impasse persist, I face the stark reality of abandoning my academic pursuits and returning to my homeland. The prospect of restarting my journey, laden with visa complexities and heightened by the current state of conflict, is a daunting one.
It is with a profound sense of urgency that I reach out to you, seeking your support to bridge this financial gap. Your contribution is not just an investment in my education; it is a testament to the belief that knowledge transcends borders and adversity.
The funds raised will be allocated meticulously: £2500 for tuition fees and £2500 for living expenses until my graduation in July 2024.
I extend my heartfelt appreciation to those who take a moment to consider my story and contribute to this pivotal chapter in my life.
Thank you for being a part of my academic journey, and I assure you that your investment in my education will echo far beyond these hallowed halls.
Sincerely, Ahmad Al Khaldi
