From War to Hope

My name is B.Mustafa, and this is my story—one of struggle, survival, and an unshakable will to rebuild.

In 2017, I began studying mechanical engineering at the University of Khartoum, full of dreams. But Sudan had other plans. Protests, a pandemic, a coup—each year brought new challenges. Then, in April 2023, war broke out.

I’ll never forget the sound of airstrikes shaking our home. The streets became death traps. No electricity. No water. Soon, we were eating one meal a day, carefully measuring every sip of water. After three weeks of this hell, my family fled.

My parents made it to Egypt first. My brother and I got stuck at the border for a month, sleeping in crowded schools with hundreds of others. No beds. No privacy. Just survival.

When we finally reunited, my parents did something unbelievable—they spent their last savings to send me to Cyprus to finish my degree. I worked any job I could find—cleaning, delivery, whatever paid. Some months, I sent money home. Other months, I barely ate. But I refused to quit.

In January 2024, I graduated with honors. I should have been celebrating. Instead, I got the call—our home in Khartoum was gone. Bombed. Looted. My father’s shop, our cars, everything we owned—vanished.

Then, another blow. My mother fell and broke her arm and leg. With no way to afford Egypt’s $3,000 security fee for Sudanese citizens, I did the only thing I could—I went back to Sudan and risked the smugglers’ route. Five days in the desert, not knowing if I’d make it alive. But I had to reach my parents.

Now, I’m fighting for a future. Germany offers a chance—a master’s degree, work, stability. But I need help with visa costs. This isn’t just about me. It’s about my parents who sacrificed everything. It’s about proving that war doesn’t get the last word.

If you can help, even a little, you’re not just donating—you’re keeping a family’s hope alive. Thank you for reading my story.
