From War to Art: Help Me Film the Stories That Matter

My name is Arsen. I’m 31 years old, born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and now living in Stroud, England. I’m reaching out to ask for your help in turning my dream into reality – to return to life and do what I love the most: capturing emotions, feelings, and stories through the lens of my camera, and showing the world as I see it.

My Story

About 14 years ago, I picked up a camera for the first time, and from that moment, filming became my passion. I’m self-taught, and after a few years of hard work, I managed to land a job as an assistant cameraman, eventually becoming a cameraman for one of the main TV channels in Ukraine. But like many others, I was affected by the war and had to leave my home.

Now I’m in England, a country I always dreamed of visiting, though not under these circumstances. I’ve been fortunate to receive support and kindness from people who’ve helped me find a new home and adjust to this new life. However, it has been emotionally challenging — the war, the loss of loved ones, and starting over in a new place have taken a toll on my mental health. Still, I am determined not to give up.

My Goal

I’ve always dreamed of transitioning from TV work to creating my own films, telling stories that matter to me. Thanks to my friend Clare, who generously spent her savings to buy me a film camera. She knows how much this makes me feel alive and happy. Her life philosophy is to sacrifice something for others to make them happy. I have no words to express my gratitude to her, but I know for sure that the best "thank you" will be if I return to life and start filming.

I’m already close to achieving my dream. But I need one last piece — a lens, without which I can’t shoot at a professional level.

This lens will be the key to creating my first film — a story about Clare, the person who gave me back my belief in myself. This will be my start, and I plan to participate in a film festival with this project.

Why I Need Your Help

I’ve already invested in the necessary accessories for the camera, but a lens is a costly piece of equipment that I currently cannot afford. That’s why I’m asking for your help to overcome this final hurdle in bringing my films to life.
