From trauma to hope

My heart beats with excitement every time I hear about the powerful new programs and transformations my friends Lydiah Anyango and Noel Miyogani are leading at Passion to Share Foundation. What began as a single spark has become something truly extraordinary—and I’m honored to support them again for my birthday this year, for the third time in a row.

I first met Passion to Share during a visit to Kenya in 2023 and was deeply touched by their founders, Lydiah and Noel, their mission, and the women they support. Back then, 16 women were enrolled in their training program. Since then, the growth has been astonishing: over 230 young mothers and women have now completed the program.

In Kibera, where life expectancy is just 30 years—drastically lower than the global average of 73.4—many women live on less than $1 a day, facing extreme poverty and limited access to clean water, food, or healthcare. This dire situation forces some to engage in transactional sex just to afford drinking water or sanitary pads. Many have also survived physical, sexual, or psychological violence, making it difficult to pursue education or employment.

PSF is meeting those realities head-on, with grassroots solutions that are practical, personal, and deeply rooted in the community they serve. For example, in 2021 they launched Kokomelon Daycare/Nursery School to support young mothers in attending vocational training. They’ve organized clothing drives, helped women regain independence, and continue to build a foundation for lasting change.

Right now, they are enrolling for their 10th training cohort, offering six-month programs in Computer Graphics, Fashion Design, and Hairdressing & Beauty—completely free of charge for young women from Kibera and beyond. Their work has gained global recognition: last year, Lydiah was invited to speak at the United Nations in New York. They also launched Genowa—a Luo word meaning Our Hope—a brilliant alumni initiative that provides access to savings tools, interest-free loans, and support networks.

And now, their next step is perhaps the most critical yet: a counseling center for women who have endured profound trauma. As a psychologist who works with trauma every day, I know just how deep those wounds can run—and how impossible it is to focus, learn, or grow until true healing begins. This isn’t optional. It’s essential. That’s why this next chapter of PSF’s mission doesn’t just speak to me—it grabs hold of my heart. So of course, this year’s fundraiser will go toward building that very center—a place of safety, support, and transformation for women who need it most.

We've already been able to donate $8,207 over the past two years, thanks to your past generosity. This year, let’s do it again!!

Your donation gives women not only skills, but safety, dignity, and hope.
