From Tragedy to Testimony: Standing Strong After Paralysis

I’m Kobe, a 17-year-old high school senior who, like most teens, was enjoying life and looking forward to the future. But on October 26th, everything changed.

I was involved in a serious car accident and had to be airlifted to a Level 1 trauma center. During surgery, I coded and was declared dead for 2 hours and 30 minutes. But through the power of prayer from my family, friends, and local pastors, God gave me a second chance at life. I'm here today because He’s not done with me yet.

As a result of the accident, I suffered a spinal cord injury at the C5- C7 vertebrae and am now a quadriplegic. I’m paralyzed from the chest down, with no mobility in my legs, no feeling in my lower abdomen, and limited use of my hands. Doctors say there’s only a 0–1% chance that I’ll ever walk again.

It’s taken me months to process this and find the right words to describe the impact this has had on my life. Recovery is not easy—but I remain hopeful. Right now, I'm receiving spinal cord injury treatment in Oklahoma City, which is the closest center to my home. However, the cost of transportation and ongoing care is a heavy burden on my family.
