At just 16 years old, Jaylen Albrew has been given an opportunity most young athletes only dream of.
Jaylen has been given the opportunity along with 20 other boys around Australia to travel to Ireland as part of an AFL development team with MB Sports.
Jaylen will compete in games internationally and represent his skills against different teams in Ireland.
But this isn’t just a trip. It’s a test of talent, commitment, and courage.
A bit about Jaylen: Jaylen started his AFL career in Cairns playing for South Cairns Cutters, He left when his dad was posted in Toowoomba for work with Queensland Fire Department. Jaylen then went to play with Uni and then was asked to come across to Coolaroo, Jaylen is a promising junior Australian Rules footballer playing who was playing for the Coolaroo Football Club in the AFL Darling Downs competition. As an U14.5 player, he was recognized as one of the region's top talents in 2024, recording 6 goals and eight best-player nominations over 12 games. Due to the nature of not enough teams in Toowoomba to further his football career, his mum was approached whilst playing Rep AFL for school representing the Darling Downs for Jaylen to go and play with the Sherwood Magpies. Now playing in Under 17s for Sherwood he is excited to be able to grow and learn more with his football career.
So, What Makes This Opportunity Special?
While in Ireland, Jaylen won’t just be playing AFL. He will be be playing Gaelic Football which is Ireland’s traditional sport.
What is Gaelic Football it is a fast, physical, and highly skilled game that shares similarities with AFL, but brings its own unique challenges.
It’s a rare chance to:

Learn a new code of football
Experience a different culture
Grow as both an athlete and a young man
