"From the Steps" - WKU Thesis Film

Welcome to the page of 'From the Steps', a psychological slasher directed by Michael Calderon. This film will act as Michael's senior capstone project as part of Western Kentucky University's Film Production BFA program.

Synopsis:

After watching a horror movie he wasn’t supposed to, a young boy must survive the night as the movie comes to life around him.

Director's Statement:

"The single most inspirational genre of film for me are 80s slashers. The likes of Friday the 13th and Halloween have had a hold on my mind since I was a child. My goal with this film is to rekindle how I viewed these movies when I was 10 and way too young to be watching them. Movies feel so real at that age, and I want to capture that experience. As my senior thesis film I'm ready to bring this idea to life. Plus, I finally get to add my own creative spin on a genre I hold so dear to me." - Michael Calderon

Funds:

This is a very production design heavy movie. On top of all the blood and makeup, this film is a, 80s period piece. The funds raised will go towards lunch catering for our dedicated cast and crew, wardrobe, production design, and securing our shooting location.

Reason:

This project is a culmination of our educational career at Western Kentucky University. The film will showcase what we are capable of as young filmmakers. This will also help us gain exposure by submitting this film to multiple high-profile film festivals nationwide in order to begin building our careers after graduation.
