I'm Brooklyn's dad. I'll tell you this the way I'd tell a friend.
On April 8th, my 14-year-old daughter was hit from behind by a dirt bike on a dark road near our home. No streetlights. No headlight on the bike. She spent five days in a coma. Spleen and rib damage, a crushed knee, a brain injury we're still learning the shape of.
On the fifth day she woke up humming her favorite song. That's who she is.
Since that night, this has been our life: therapy every day. MRIs and X-rays that insurance doesn't cover the way I believed it would. I'm a single father of two — their mom passed a year before the accident — and I run my own business, which means when I'm at the hospital, nobody's earning. I work around the clock and it still isn't closing the gap. There have been nights I've sat in the truck in a parking lot because I didn't have anything left to walk inside with.
I'm not writing that for sympathy. I'm writing it because if you give to this, you deserve to know exactly what it's holding up: her therapy, her scans, and the roof over both my kids while she fights her way back.
And she is fighting. Brooklyn is a barrel racer — she's rescued horses nobody else wanted and brought them back herself. Now every single therapy session is her doing the same thing for herself, with one goal: back in the saddle.
If you can give, it goes directly to her recovery. If you can't, share this page — one share into the right community has done more for us than I ever expected.
Thank you for reading this far. It matters.
— Ryan
