From the Rubble to Safety – I'm Maysa, a Mother of Five

HELLO
My name is Maysa. I am a mother of five beautiful children, and all we dream of is survival—a chance to live, to be safe, and to rebuild a life after all we've lost.

This is not just a story about war. It’s a story about a mother torn between bombs and bills, between the sound of explosions and the cries of her children.

I'm 38 years old, married to Hossam, and we have five kids:
Jamal (16), Mohammed (14, who suffers from a rare chronic illness and needs lifelong medication), Layan (10), Amir (8), and Zina (4).

Our home was severely damaged by fire and is no longer livable. We’ve been forced to flee more than 20 times, narrowly escaping death. We’ve lost over 100 friends, neighbors, and relatives. Each day is a fight to stay alive.

But even beyond the bombs, life has become unbearable.
Because of the war, we can’t work. We’ve lost all income. And as prices continue to skyrocket, we can’t even afford the basics—food, water, diapers, clothing, or medicine.
We started borrowing money just to survive. Now, we are drowning in debt, and every day, the burden gets heavier.
My son Mohammed is getting worse without proper access to his essential medication. And my other children are growing up in fear, without school, without play, without hope.
That’s why we made the heartbreaking decision to leave.
We are trying to reach a safe country—maybe Canada, Sweden, or Belgium—to give our children a chance at a future. But leaving is expensive.
Each family member needs about $5,000 for travel, visas, housing, and starting over.
We are not asking for luxury—we are asking for life.
Your support can give us a chance to start again:
A safe home
Basic needs like food and hygiene
Medication for Mohammed
Education for our children
Mental health support after all the trauma
Every donation—no matter how small—makes a difference.
If you cannot give, please share our story. You might connect us to someone who can help.
Thank you for reading.
Thank you for keeping our hope alive.
