From the Rubble, Rufaida Sehwail Fights Destruction with Art: Let’s Be Her Remaining Colors"
Description:
In a corner of the world that knows nothing but siege and bombardment, Rufaida Sehwail’s dreams were born on her canvases, where her colors blended with stories of hope and resilience. For 17 years, Rufaida has been fighting darkness with her vibrant palette, transforming Palestinian pain into paintings that speak to the world and using art as a bridge to express humanity and connect with her community.
But the current war has been unimaginably harsh. On the second day of the conflict, while Rufaida was trying to protect her family, her home was completely destroyed before her eyes. She and her family narrowly escaped death by sheer luck. Rufaida lost more than just a roof over her head—she lost her sanctuary of thought, her library, her studio, and an archive of 400 artworks that represented the story of her life and creativity. She lost everything... even her job as an art supervisor, her sole source of income.
Despite being displaced seven times since the war began, Rufaida has not stopped giving. Since November 2023, even while sheltering in temporary locations, she has been providing psychological support sessions for children displaced by the war. She teaches them how colors can lighten the weight of their pain and how art can mark a fresh beginning.
Rufaida needs us now.
She does not ask for much—just the support to stand again, rebuild her life and studio, and continue her mission of healing children through art.
The campaign aims to raise $25,000, distributed as follows:
1. $10,000 to rebuild Rufaida ’s studio: To purchase art supplies, materials, and secure a space where she can work and create again.
2. $8,000 to cover her essential needs: To help her rebuild her life and provide for her family after losing her home and source of income.
3. $7,000 to support a children’s art program: To establish a comprehensive project for healing children affected by the war through ongoing art sessions that help mend their fragile spirits.
Why support Rufaida ?
Rufaida is not just an artist; she is a voice for all who have lost, a beacon of hope for those in need. Her story embodies the strength of Palestinian resilience, and her work shows the world that art can be a weapon more powerful than destruction.
