We are pleased to announce From the Hand, a five person group exhibition, opening on Friday, March 3rd, 2017 at Welmont. The exhibition will showcase a wide variety of artwork from paintings, sculpture and installations. We are enthusiastic about our progress thus far, however, we are unable to present this exhibition to the community without financial and in-kind support.
From the Hand is a group show of work by the artists Jinny Choi, Abby Cochran, Hanna Hentze, Morgan Smith, and Oliver Stephens. Through a variety of art practices the concept of physical manipulation is explored. The works exemplify how painting, sculpture, and installation serve as powerful testaments to the human ability to create through physicality. Artists: Choi, Cochran, Hentze, Smith, and Stephens found unity in their shared passion for the tactile pleasure of creating with their hands.

Jinny Choi (b. 1993, Seoul, South Korea) is receiving a B.F.A. in painting, with a minor in ceramics, from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA, in March 2017. Choi works with a variety of media, from painting to alternative and mixed media installations. She was awarded a studio space at the Savannah College of Art and has exhibited her works in the deFine Art Festival at Alexander Hall, Savannah, GA. She currently lives and works in Savannah, GA and will be relocating to Seoul, South Korea in the spring of 2017.

Abby Cochran (b. 1993, Indianapolis, IN) is receiving a B.F.A in painting in the spring of 2017 from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA. She has exhibited her work internationally in Lacoste, France and Savannah, GA. Her work is comprised of multimedia paintings that confront notions of fear and the ephemeral through an extensive layering process. She was a studio intern for artists Steven and William Ladd. Currently, she lives and works in Savannah, GA and will be relocating to New York in the spring of 2017.

Hanna Hentze (b. 1995, Long Island, NY) is receiving a B.F.A. in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA in the spring of 2017. She has exhibited her work in several group exhibitions in Savannah, GA. Her work was published in Studio Visit Magazine: Volume 34, curated by Michael Lash, Independent Curator and former Director of Public Arts, City of Chicago. Her hyperreal oil paintings reveal and explore the boundaries of non-voyeuristic intimacy. Currently, Hentze lives and works in Savannah, GA and will be relocating to New York City in the summer of 2017.

Morgan Smith (b. 1993, Savannah, GA) is receiving a B.F.A. in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA in March 2017. She has exhibited her work in several group exhibitions in Savannah, GA. She was awarded a studio space at the Savannah College of Art and Design and participates regularly in open studio events. She is a mixed media artist who explores the impact of natural disasters. She unifies organic and synthetic materials, through an association based process. She currently lives and works in Savannah, and will relocate to Colorado in 2018.

Oliver Stephens (b. 1990, Antigua Guatemala, GT) is receiving a B.F.A. in painting and historic preservation, with a minor in art history, from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA, in May 2017. He has exhibited in several group exhibitions in Guatemala City, Modena, Venice and Savannah. He has notably participated in the Padiglione Italia for the 54th Venice Biennale curated by Vittorio Sgarbi. Through a meticulous use of line work and geometry, flowing narratives depict commentary on controversial cultural experiences. Layers of hidden meaning are created through symbolism and abstraction. He currently lives and works in Savannah, GA and is relocating to Latin America in the summer of 2017.
Thank you for your support and we hope to see you at our opening reception!
