We are students from Manhattan College who were invited to present our research on poet and playwright Aphra Behn (1640-1689) at an international conference at the University of Kent, England. Many of us come from underserved communities in and around the Bronx and are first generation students who have never traveled outside of the United States. Being invited to present at this conference and experience England would be a life changing and transformative experience. We have been working on our papers for many months doing archival research and writing countless drafts of our papers in order to prepare. We are trying to raise $5,000 to offset the costs of our travel, lodging and registration for the conference.
