Hi, I am Michelle Nivar, a third-generation Dominican and New York City native, raising funds to cover my medical school tuition this semester at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Being accepted into medical school has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. I’ve worked so hard to reach this point, through challenges, late nights, and years of persistence, but right now, I am facing a financial gap that I cannot close on my own.
This semester’s tuition alone is $34,491, and this doesn’t include housing, transportation, or basic living costs. I am actively applying for scholarships and part-time jobs, but medical school makes working extremely difficult, and opportunities are limited. On top of that, changes to federal student loan borrowing limits are coming soon, which could make financing my education even harder.

Why I’m Asking for Your Help
I am where I am today because of community. From after-school homework programs to standardized test prep, mentors, and teachers who believed in me, I would not be here today without the people who invested in my future.
Now, I am asking for your support to help sponsor my education so that one day, I can do the same for someone else. My dream is not just to become Dr. Nivar, but to use my position to serve underserved communities and mentor students coming after me.

How Your Gift Makes an Impact
Even small contributions can make big impacts in my journey:
- $30 → Covers a week of transportation to and from school & clinic
- $50 → Helps pay for medical supplies like a blood pressure cuff and penlight
- $250 → Supports a portion of my exam prep fees so I can prepare for medical board exams
- $400 → Pays for one full day of tuition
- $1,000+ → Makes a life-changing impact that brings me closer to my tuition goal
Every single donation (no matter the size!) moves me one step closer to becoming Dr. Nivar.

More About My Journey
I grew up in Washington Heights in New York City, where I learned the value of hard work, resilience, and community. My journey to medicine has not been straightforward, but it has taught me a great deal along the way:
2020 University Graduate — Navigated higher education while working multiple jobs.
Community Health Advocate — Worked in clinics as a medical assistant and volunteered for public health programs serving underserved populations.
Biomedical Sciences Researcher — Earned my Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences while researching aortic size regulation and rare genetic disorders.
Future Physician — My dream is to bridge health gaps and serve under-resourced communities that need compassionate care.
