My name is William King, and this is about my son, Landon Scott King — an 11-year-old boy who should be focused on friends, sports, and being a kid… but instead, he’s fighting a rare and serious disease.

Landon was recently diagnosed with GPA (Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis) — a life-threatening autoimmune disease that affects only 1–2 children per million each year. It’s so rare in kids that most cases are found in adults between the ages of 40 and 60. For Landon, it’s aggressively attacking his kidneys, lungs, joints, and blood vessels. He’s already endured blood clots, internal bleeding, joint swelling, and long hospital stays.

Now, he’s preparing to start chemotherapy and immune-suppressing treatments that will last for at least the next two years. He’s missing out on baseball, time with friends, and the freedom to just be a kid. We’re likely going to have to start homeschooling soon to keep him safe during treatment.

Landon is a tough kid — smart, kind, and stronger than most adults I know. He loves fishing and playing baseball, and we’re holding on to hope that one day soon, he’ll be back on the field and out on the water, doing what he loves.

We’re currently working to transfer him to Duke Children’s Hospital for more advanced care. That means more travel, time off work, and increasing costs — but we’re committed to doing whatever it takes to get him the best care possible.
