Taijah is a brave mother of three and lifelong sickle cell warrior. In July, she nearly lost her life after a rare complication put her in a month-long coma. Though she survived by God’s grace, she is now a quad amputee. This fundraiser will help her get the prosthetics, equipment, and therapy she needs to continue being the loving mother and community leader she has always been.

Taijah thought she was having a sickle cell flare-up. She drove herself and her 4-month-old son to her mother’s house, then was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Though she has faced sickle cell disease with courage her entire life, this time was different. After a failed exchange blood transfusion, she coded and nearly lost her life. Diagnosed with Fat Embolism Syndrome, a rare and often fatal complication, Taijah was placed on life-saving supports while her family and friends prayed for a miracle.
By the grace of God, she survived.
After nearly a month in a coma, Taijah woke up herself, cracking jokes, asking for water and food, and even giving her doctors and nurses Disney-inspired nicknames. But the fight came at a heavy cost: she lost both her hands and feet and is now a quad amputee.
This fundraiser, Taijah’s Hands & Feet Fund, will help cover the specialized equipment, the best prosthetics, and therapy she needs to regain independence. Taijah is determined to continue being the loving mother, daughter, and community leader she has always been, and with your support, she can.
Taijah is the proud mother of three children and a passionate advocate for her community. She has spent years fighting for “real food for real people,” traveling across the country to speak at conferences and partner with organizations about the importance of healthy food access.
One of her proudest moments was becoming the first person to perform a spoken word piece at the USDA in Washington, D.C., sharing her powerful story about bringing healthy food to her community.
With your support, she can continue being the loving mother, daughter, and community leader she has always been.
