From Suffering to Safety: Help Save Porchop the Sphynx cat

Meet “Porkchop” a sphynx female who is in dire need of help.

. On August 30th 2025 , I received a message about a Sphynx cat who urgently needed help and placement in a home where she could receive proper care.
The situation is heart-wrenching. Porkchop’s condition is far worse than the photos could capture.
Here’s what I know so far, though the details keep changing:
Saturday night, I learned that a 15-month-old Sphynx had just had a litter of kittens 8 weeks ago, and those kittens were supposedly surrendered to the SPCA.

I was also told that Porkchop might be about two weeks pregnant again, making an already difficult situation even more complicated.

On Sunday, I drove to pick up Porkchop and was shocked at how emaciated she was. Her ears were filthy, her skin in poor condition, and her claws were severely overgrown. At that point, I was told she had been vomiting bile for an unknown number of days. She is an adult and weighs 4.5lb which is around the same weight of a health 13 week old kitten.

As the evening went on, more details emerged:

It turns out that Porkchop might actually be older than 2 years.

The woman (likely a backyard breeder) noticed that Porkchop was getting sick, so she removed the kittens from her care and told a friend to dump her at the SPCA and let them take care of her.

This woman relies on breeding as her primary income but is not providing the necessary medical care for the cats, even when they show signs of illness.

Since arriving with us, Porkchop has been unable to keep food down and has only been able to hold down a bit of water with probiotics. She is lethargic, severely underweight, running a high fever, and her ears are extremely dirty. Her back legs are covered in sores that resemble urine burns, and her feet are caked with feces.

It took me nearly 40 minutes to gently clean the feces off her toes and nails with a toothbrush. I used nearly an entire box of Q-tips to clean out her ears and gave her a small bath to help her feel a little better.

She’s so weak that she can’t even get up to use the litter box. She’s been urinating where she sits, and she can barely lift her head.

We have a vet appointment scheduled for Tuesday to start her on anti-nausea medication and to begin diagnostic testing to figure out what’s going on with her.

update : Sept 2nd Porkchop had he veterinary visit where she was given an anti nausea shot and had a some bloodwork completed.

bloodwork is showing signs of extreme infection. Her bone marrow is over producing red blood cells to combat anemia and her white blood cell count is extremely elevated, along with a few other concern things in her results.

today is the first day she has been able to hold down food without vomiting.

Porkchop will be needing further diagnostic testing which will include upper respiratory pcr , stool pcr, blood cultures, urinalysis, X-rays, repeat bloodwork and possible hospitalization if her prognosis worsens.
