I’m writing on behalf of my daughter, Isabela, who has been given a wonderful opportunity to attend the 36th Annual International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) Conference – “From Soul to Sole” in Atlanta, GA, February 2026
If you know Isabela, you know her heart for dance runs deep. She is disciplined and committed — a student who shows up, gives her all in class, supports her fellow dance mates, and carries a kindness and inner grace that lights up the studio.
This experience will not only help her grow artistically but also open doors for her future in dance. The IABD Conference represents continued growth — new techniques, new inspiration, meaningful networking, and exposure to elite-level dance work. It will strengthen her as a dancer and a young artist.
Through this opportunity, Isabela will take dance classes with world-renowned teachers and choreographers and attend breathtaking showcases featuring Alvin Ailey, Philadanco, Dallas Black Dance Theater, Lula Washington Dance Theater, Dance Theater of Harlem, and many more. She'll also have the opportunity to audition for scholarships and summer dance intensives at the end of the conference.
To make this dream possible, we’re launching a two-part giving series called "From Soul to Sole: Covered in Love."
Part 1: Covered in Purpose: Goal: $600 by November 15
To cover her registration, classes, and showcase fees for the IABD Dance Conference.
This first phase is called “Covered in Purpose.” It’s about preparing her for what’s ahead — mentally, spiritually, and artistically. I’m asking 60 people to sow $10 into Isabela’s journey. If you feel led to give more or less, please know there’s no donation too small. Every seed matters.
Instead of letters for this round, we invite you to share a Word of Purpose — one word, scripture, or phrase that reflects what you believe she will carry into this season.
Examples: Faith. Strength. Grace. Discipline. Courage. Light.
Each word will be written on Isabela’s Path of Purpose Board, a visual reminder of the love and support surrounding her. The night before she leaves, she’ll stand before that board and read every word — surrounded by prayers, faith, and affirmation — so she walks into the conference covered in purpose and peace.
Part 2: Covered in Promise: Goal: $600 by December 8
To cover her flight and hotel expenses.
Once she’s registered and ready, the second phase prepares her to go.
This phase is called “Covered in Promise.” It represents stepping boldly into what God has already planned for her life — the moment when preparation meets opportunity. For this round, we’re inviting friends, family, and supporters to send Letters of Promise — short notes or prayers beginning with:
“When you step into your promise, remember…”
These letters will be presented to Isabela the night before her first day at the conference, so she enters that space surrounded by love, prayer, and every reminder of who she is and whose she is.
A Final Word
Isabela is a true reflection of the conference theme, “From Soul to Sole.”
Every time she dances, she leaves her soul on the floor — using the very gift that God anointed her feet to move with. Her movement is her ministry, and her purpose is written in every step she takes.
“Let them praise His name with dancing.” — Psalm 149:3
Every seed sown, every word spoken, and every prayer lifted helps her walk in that calling — from soul to soul, covered in love.
Thank you for believing in her and helping me nurture not just her talent, but her faith, confidence, and sense of purpose.
With love and gratitude, Jessica Spurlock (Mom)
