From Sketch Comedy to the Big Screen - My First Short Film

Hi there! My name is Daragh Twomey.

I've been creating content for the internet since way back in 2007 when I was 12 years old. I had unbelievable success over the pandemic on Tik-Tok, where I gained a following of over 600,000 people, resulting in tens of millions of views.

I make my living as a videographer - mostly wedding and commercial, and I'm so glad that I'm able to use my skillset to pay the bills. I turned 30 in the end of 2024, and I want to kick this new decade of life off with a creative bang, by embarking on creating my first ever short film.

The majority of my creative pursuits have either been made with 0 budget, or a shoestring one. For this short film, I want to take the quality that step further and rent high end locations and pay a cast and crew of talented individuals, rather than just relying on favours.

What is the film about?

My currently untitled short film, is a dark-comedy, crime thriller. A down on his luck ex-convict finds himself in a psychological game of cat and mouse with the daughter of a powerful billionaire, when a burglry goes wrong. It's a film about dealing with your insecurities and fragile ego, while also attempting to accept your place in the world.

I love comedy, especially darker crime comedies. Think of In Bruges, The Guard and Hot Fuzz, and you'll be on the right track with this film.

What is the funding going towards?

The funds raised will go towards;

The more funds we can raise, the larger a crew we can hire, and ideally pay everyone a fair wage.

What happens next?

As soon as we have a location sorted, we can tear into casting, further pre-production, rehearsals and enter production later this Spring. Ideally the film is finished by early summer, so that we can meet various film festivals deadlines. After that, who knows! If possible, I would love to develop this script into a feature film, as I feel there's the characters and scope to do so. But time will tell.
