Brady’s Jiu-Jitsu Journey to the JJIF Worlds 2025

From Saugeen Shores, Ontario to Thailand — Help Me Represent Canada

My name is Brady Kibler. Martial arts have been a defining part of my life since I was five years old. Now, at 18, I’m incredibly proud to share that I’ve officially qualified to represent Team Canada at the JJIF Jiu-Jitsu World Championships in 2025, a dream I’ve been chasing for years.

But to take this next step, I need your support.

My Story

I started in karate at a young age, but everything changed when my family moved to Saskatchewan for my dad’s work. That’s where I was introduced to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), kickboxing, and weightlifting by Coach Graham Weenk. I fell in love with the sport instantly. I began training as often as possible and set a goal to compete, learn, and grow through every experience.

After returning home to Saugeen Shores, my mom crossed paths with Jesse Topp — after noticing his cauliflower ear. Jesse had just opened a new gym, and together they surprised me with a visit. That moment brought me back to the mats. Little did I know this would be the place that changed my life. I found a second family within the community. Jesse became more than just a coach — he’s like a big brother to me. I dove into training five to seven days a week.

I began competing seriously, placing first and second in regional competitions, winning double gold at the Western Kids Championships, and later taking second place at the Ontario Provincials. Over the years, I’ve earned multiple podium finishes at high-level events like the Ontario Open and the Canadian Nationals.

More Than a Sport

Jiu-Jitsu gave me more than just medals — it helped shape who I am. As a kid, I struggled with bullying and low confidence. On the mats, I found a sense of belonging and purpose. With Jesse’s guidance and the support of my teammates, I built not only my physical strength but also the confidence to grow into the person I am today.

Now, I’m proud to coach our gym’s youth and teen programs, serve as a backup adult coach, and lead our competition team. Giving back to the next generation of martial artists is one of my proudest roles.

Earning My Spot on Team Canada

In June 2025, I competed in four stacked divisions at the Canadian Nationals. After a full day of matches — from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — I placed 7th and 5th in the Adult Gi and No-Gi -85kg divisions, and 4th in U21 Gi and 2nd in U21 No-Gi -85kg. These results officially qualified me to compete at the JJIF World Championships in Thailand as part of Team Canada.

The Reality Behind the Dream

Behind every training session and competition is a family that has supported me through it all. There were times when it was financially difficult to afford training and competition expenses. My mom stepped away from full-time work for health reasons and shifted her focus to being present for our family in every way she could.

My dad is our main provider and often works long hours, including weekends, to help keep this dream alive. I’ve been working since my teens and have paid for my own education through savings. I’m now in my second year of the Police Foundations program and was proud to make the Dean’s List in my first year.

Even my little sister has followed in my footsteps. She started training in Jiu-Jitsu at just three and a half years old. She’s now 12 and loves the sport just as much as I do.

Why I Need Your Help:

I’m asking for community support to help cover the cost of:

Flights to Thailand

Hotel and accommodations

Meals and transportation

Ideally, helping my mom, dad, and sister join me. They’ve been my rock, and I would love for them to experience this moment by my side.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity — not just to compete, but to represent Canada, my gym, my hometown, and everyone who has helped me get here.

How You Can Support

Any amount helps. Truly. Every dollar brings me one step closer to stepping onto the world stage and chasing my dream of becoming a JJIF World Champion.
