My name is Shay Lashgari, and I am writing to humbly request financial assistance for relocation expenses as I prepare to move from Dallas, TX to Syracuse, NY. This move represents more than just a change in geography—it is the beginning of a deeply meaningful chapter in my life.

I have accepted an exciting job opportunity in Syracuse where I will be working in education, specifically serving children from backgrounds similar to mine—those who have faced adversity and lack access to resources. As a first-generation American and a former refugee, I have experienced the challenges of growing up in an environment where opportunities were limited. However, I was fortunate enough to receive guidance, and through determination, I began to break through the barriers that many children like me face. Throughout my life, I have been driven by a deep desire to give back. Over the past few years, I have worked in various roles focused on supporting and empowering underrepresented youth. As a volunteer tutor, I helped students from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve academic success. I’ve also worked in community outreach programs, providing mentorship and workshops for young girls, helping them gain confidence, explore career paths, and understand the power of education.

In addition to this hands-on work with youth, I have been passionate about advocating for access to education and creating safe spaces where children can thrive despite the odds. I have worked with local nonprofits that focus on refugee resettlement and supporting marginalized communities, helping families navigate the challenges of adjusting to life in the U.S. I understand how crucial education is for breaking cycles of poverty and systemic inequality, which is why I am so excited about this opportunity to work directly with children in Syracuse.

This role in Syracuse allows me to continue this important work on a larger scale, making an even bigger impact in the lives of children who need it most. However, the financial burden of relocation has created a significant barrier to my ability to transition smoothly. The upfront housing costs alone amount to $2,500, and when factoring in travel, groceries, and initial living expenses, the total minimum relocation cost is approximately $3,920. I have been diligently saving every dollar I can and I have saved $400, but I still fall short and would be incredibly grateful for any financial assistance, sponsorship, or connections to resources that can help me

cover these necessary costs.
