We are Kendal and Richard, a couple who have been volunteering in dog shelters in Asia and Latin America for the past year and a half, we are currently volunteering at a dog shelter in Peru and will be heading home soon, hopefully with some help, our new best pal Shadow will come with us!

Shadow arrived at the shelter after being rescued from the streets in Huaraz, we think he was abandoned by his previous owner as he was found near a river where a lot of dogs are left to fend for themselves. When he arrived his fur was matted, he was scared and skinny, but it was clear that he had a lot of love to give to humans.

Even with the knots and dreadlocks in his fur, we had already fallen in love with him.We gave him a much needed haircut (it took a very long time) gave him a wash and made him feel safe.

The shelter named him Wally but we have renamed him Shadow as he is always following us around, whenever we are not together he looks for us. He has stayed with us every night and now we can’t imagine a life without him.

The shelter have estimated that he is 9 years old looking at his teeth, because of his age he is very unlikely to be adopted and could spend the rest of his days in the shelter.

He is a very nervous dog so being in the shelter with 90+ dogs is not the best place for him, he is an older dog that needs a home where he can get the care and attention that he needs to enjoy his last years.

To get him to Jersey will involve paying for adoption papers, vaccinations, a flight to France, our travel to and from France where we will need to pick him up and bring him home from and probably some other costs which we have not accounted for yet.

We estimate that the total costs will be at least £1,000, more likely to be £1,500. We are hoping to raise as much as we can to cover these costs, as we will be returning to Jersey with very limited funds and want to get Shadow to Jersey with us as soon as possible as he isn't getting any younger.

Any money we can raise would really help us out, we (and Shadow!) would really appreciate any donations big or small!
