As many of you know, Jamaica has been a huge part of our lives and our second home for decades. Negril, in particular, has been our sacred place where we go to recharge, reflect, and celebrate every milestone. From the very first visit, we fell in love with the island’s beauty: the turquoise sea, the golden sunsets, the music in the air, and the food that feels like love on a plate.
But what truly captured our hearts were the people. The warmth. The resilience. The harmony with nature. The deep faith and spirituality that shine through even in the hardest times. Over the years, we have been blessed to form friendships that turned into family, bonds we hold close to our hearts.
There’s a Jamaican saying, “Wi likkle but wi tallawah,” meaning we may be small, but we are strong. That strength is being tested right now as Jamaica faces immense devastation. While I encourage you to support the larger organizations rushing to bring aid, I am also asking, from the bottom of my heart, for your help for one family — dear friends who have become our chosen family.
We met them in our twenties and watched their love story unfold as they worked multiple jobs, built a home, raised beautiful children, and created a small business with pride and hope. Now, they are faced with the unimaginable task of rebuilding their lives and their community.
Your kindness, no matter the amount, can help lift a family who has given so much of themselves, not only to us but to their entire community. Together, we can help them and their community rise again.
Thank you for opening your hearts and standing with our extended Jamaican family during this difficult time. Your generosity will make a real and lasting difference.
“One love, one heart, let’s get together and feel all right.”
With gratitude and love,
Mike & Mona
