From Opportunity to Impact: My Harvard Journey for Education

Education is the passport to the future—but not every child is given that chance.
My name is Rachid Makra. I’m an educator based in Luxembourg, originally from Morocco, and this belief has shaped my journey.
I didn’t learn it from books, but from the children I’ve worked with.
During my work with NGOs, I supported young people in some of the most difficult situations, orphaned children, refugees, and teenagers facing serious challenges. I remember one moment that stayed with me: a young boy I worked with had completely lost confidence in himself. But when he was given access to education and support, something changed. Little by little, he began to believe in his future again. That transformation is something I will never forget.
It’s the reason I chose this path.
Today, I have been given an extraordinary opportunity: I’ve been admitted to Harvard University to pursue a Master’s in Education Leadership, Organizations and Entrepreneurship. This program will give me the tools to build more inclusive, effective education systems—and to turn my long-term vision into reality.
Beyond my studies, I am already working toward a concrete goal: creating my own initiative to expand access to education.
I have taken the first steps by shaping the vision of this project and exploring how to support children and young people who face barriers to education, especially those from vulnerable backgrounds such as refugees or socially disadvantaged communities.
During my studies, I plan to develop this initiative further by building a structured program, connecting with experts and partners, and designing sustainable solutions that can have a long-term impact.
After completing my degree, my objective is to fully launch this initiative as an NGO or charitable program focused on improving access to education, providing support systems for young people, and creating opportunities where they are most needed.
But there is one major obstacle: I cannot afford it.
The total cost of one academic year is around €98,000. I have actively searched for scholarships and student loans, but in Luxembourg these opportunities are very limited and highly competitive. Despite my efforts, I have not been able to secure any of these opportunities so far. I am currently on the waitlist for a scholarship from Harvard, but there is no guarantee it will be granted.
Today, I need your help to make this possible.
Your support is not just helping me attend Harvard, it is helping me continue working for children who deserve access to education, stability, and opportunity.
Every contribution, no matter how small, brings me one step closer to turning this opportunity into real, lasting impact.
If you believe, like I do, that education can change the future, I would be deeply grateful for your support.
If you are not able to donate, sharing this page would already make a big difference.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
