Friends and Family,

We’re reaching out on behalf of someone who is like a daughter to me and Ryan — a young woman who has been part of our family in all the ways that matter. She’s been with us through it all: at every birthday party, helping raise our babies, watching our animals when emergencies hit, and showing up quietly and consistently in the background of our lives with love, care, and kindness.

She is truly one of the brightest, warmest, most generous souls we know.

Just weeks before she was set to begin nursing school this fall, her world was turned upside down. Her fiancé was the victim of a horrific hit-and-run in Daly City on Saturday night. He was left for dead in the street. When I spoke with the detective, they referred to this as a “fatality” — that’s how severe it is. He remains in critical condition, and we simply don’t know what the outcome will be.

In the midst of this crisis, she is trying to cover rent, pay bills, navigate the legal system, and support him through what will likely be a long and uncertain recovery; she is putting her own dreams on hold to, again, show up for others.

Ryan and I are helping as much as we can, but we also wanted to reach out to our community . If you’ve ever wondered how to make a difference for someone who’s always given so much of herself to others, this is that moment. Even $5 makes a difference.
