I never imagined I’d be writing something like this, but life has a way of throwing unexpected events at us… A couple days ago our family dog Gus, was stomped by a moose resulting in a dislocated right hip and serious bruising. After 2 different vet visits and putting him under anesthesia, they were able to relocate his hip.

Unfortunately, we were warned that this type of dislocation has a high chance of recurring—and that’s exactly what happened. Despite everyone’s best efforts, Gus’s hip has dislocated again.

Now, the only path forward for Gus to live a pain-free, active life is a surgical procedure called a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO). It’s a specialized surgery where part of the femur is removed to create a “false” joint, and while dogs like Gus can recover well from it, the cost is significant and beyond what our family can manage right now..
