Hello, my name is Safia Albadry. I’m a Health Sciences and Biochemistry student from Ottawa, Canada, currently completing a medical internship at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya.

During my time here, I’ve been rotating in the newborn unit—a place filled with the tiniest fighters and some of the most selfless healthcare workers I’ve ever met. But I’ve also witnessed unimaginable challenges: a heartbreaking shortage of resources, lack of equipment, and an overwhelming number of newborns orphaned at birth due to maternal deaths.

One of those babies is Maria.

Baby Maria was born just a few weeks ago. Her mother was sent to a psychiatric hospital for personal reasons, and her father is not in the picture. Now, she’s cared for by the unit’s nurses and volunteers—without family, without basic supplies, and without even an incubator to keep her warm.

The unit is in desperate need of:

Infant incubators and warmers, feeding tubes and bottles, diapers and formula, sterile gloves and medical supplies, blankets and clothing, and support for orphaned infants like Maria

That’s why I’ve started this fundraiser—to give these babies a fighting chance.

All funds will go directly toward purchasing essential neonatal equipment and supplies for the Coast General newborn unit. Even the smallest donation can make a life-saving impact.
