Hi, we’re Elizabeth, Jocelyn, and our little brother Enoc who is only 4 years old. We never thought we’d have to write something like this.

A few days ago, our mom — Mama Ingrid — went to what was supposed to be a normal immigration check in. She always goes and she's always come home. She told us she’d be home soon. But she never came home.

ICE took her without warning. We didn’t get to hug her. We didn’t get to say goodbye. Our dad, Nelson, is trying so hard to stay strong for us, but we can see how scared he is, too.

From Elizabeth (19):

I just turned 19, and it was the first time my mom couldn't be with me on my birthday. I'll be graduating high school in June. My mom should be celebrating with me, but instead ICE took her across the country and imprisoned her in Washington State. Now I’m trying to help my dad take care of everything at home—cooking, cleaning, taking care of my little brother—while also finishing school. It’s hard to focus on my studies. I’d been planning on going to the university this fall, but my family needs income, so I’ll be getting a job after I graduate. I miss her so much.

From Jocelyn (16):

I don’t understand how someone can just take your mom. I keep thinking she’ll walk through the door any minute. I’m trying to help with my little brother, but it’s really hard without her. I constantly worry about my mom, so it’s really hard to pay attention at school.

From our brother, Enoc (4):

Enoc keeps asking, “Where’s Mama?” He doesn’t understand why Mama doesn’t come home. There are no words to explain something like this to someone so little. He cries at night because he wants her to tuck him in.

Why We Need Help

Our dad is doing everything he can, but now he has to pay for:

• A lawyer to help bring our mom home

• Rent, food, and bills on just one income

• Childcare and transportation

• Everything our mom used to help with every day

We’re trying to stay hopeful, but it’s really hard. We just want our family back together.

Hace unos días, nuestra mamá —Mamá Ingrid—lo que se suponía que sería una cita de control migratorio rutinaria. Ella siempre asiste a sus citas. Nos dijo que volvería a casa pronto.

Pero nunca regresó.

ICE se la llevó sin previo aviso. No pudimos abrazarla. No pudimos despedirnos. Nuestro papá, Nelson, está tratando de mantenerse fuerte por nosotros, pero podemos ver lo asustado que está, también.

Acabo de cumplir 19 años, y fue la primera vez que mi mamá no pudo estar conmigo en mi cumpleaños. Me graduaré de la escuela secundaria en junio. Mi mamá debería estar celebrando conmigo, pero en su lugar, ICE se la llevó al otro extremo del país y la encarceló en el estado de Washington. Ahora estoy tratando de ayudar a mi papá a encargarse de todo en casa —cocinar, limpiar, cuidar de mi hermanito— mientras también termina la escuela. Es difícil concentrarse en mis estudios. Había planeado ir a la universidad este otoño, pero mi familia necesita ingresos, así que buscaré un trabajo después de graduarme. La extraño muchísimo.

De Jocelyn (16):

No entiendo cómo alguien puede simplemente llevarse a tu mamá. Sigo pensando que entrará por la puerta en cualquier momento. Estoy tratando de ayudar con mi hermanito, pero es realmente difícil sin ella. Me preocupa constantemente mi mamá, por lo que me resulta muy difícil prestar atención en la escuela.

De nuestro hermano, Enoc (4):

Enoc no deja de preguntar: "¿Dónde está mamá?". No entiende por qué mamá no regresa a casa. No hay palabras para explicar algo así a alguien tan pequeño. Llora por las noches porque quiere que ella lo arrope.

Por qué necesitamos ayuda

Nuestro papá está haciendo todo lo que puede, pero ahora tiene que pagar:

• Un abogado para ayudar a traer a nuestra mamá de vuelta a casa

• El alquiler, alimentos y las facturas de un solo ingreso

• El cuidado de los niños y el transporte

• Todo lo que nuestra mamá solía ayudar todos los días

Estamos tratando de mantener la esperanza, pero es realmente difícil. Solo queremos que nuestra familia vuelva a estar unida.
