From ICU to Eviction Court: Please Help Bridge the Gap

A strong and resilient woman is facing eviction while recovering from a life-threatening heart condition that changed her life forever.

In March 2024, she was involved in a serious car accident after blacking out behind the wheel. Doctors later discovered that the blackout was caused by severe heart failure — her heart was no longer functioning properly. As a result, she underwent emergency surgery and had a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implanted.

An LVAD is a mechanical heart pump used for patients with advanced heart failure. It helps the heart circulate blood and is often used while patients wait for a heart transplant. Since the procedure, her heart is no longer strong enough to function on its own — she now depends entirely on this machine to stay alive. If it stops, she stops.

Despite the gravity of her condition, she’s doing everything she can to support herself and her household. While awaiting approval for long-term disability, she’s been driving for Lyft to try to make ends meet and pay off back rent. But every day on the road is a risk to her life. She lives off of batteries and a machine that keeps her heart beating — and even one moment without power could be catastrophic.

She has fallen behind on her rent for the months of March through June and was recently taken to court. After a court date on June 17th, she was given a few days to pay the full balance or face eviction.

Local agencies and organizations have not had the funding to assist, and her credit has suffered due to the financial hardship, making relocation impossible. She is doing everything she can — including putting her own health at risk — to keep her home and care for her family.

This fundraiser is a last hope. Every dollar raised will go directly toward rent to prevent eviction, keep her housed, and give her a chance to heal.

Please consider helping, whether through a donation, sharing this campaign, or offering resources. This is someone who has spent her life giving to others — now she urgently needs our help to stay afloat.
