From Hurricane Dorian Survivor to Saint Leo Leader

The finish line is in sight, but there is a threatening road block.

In 2019, Breon Fox stood amidst the wreckage of Abaco, Bahamas, a survivor of the most catastrophic Hurricane that braced the Bahamas shores, Hurricane Dorian.

While the storm stripped away homes and security, it couldn’t touch Breon’s resolve. He didn’t just survive; he fought his way to Saint Leo University in 2022 with a single goal: to build a future that would make his family proud of him and his island better off than he left it.

The survival of Hurricane Dorian has given him a new perspective of living life on purpose.

Now, four years later, Breon is a Senior Marketing major set to graduate this May.
He is a Dean’s List student, a dedicated Resident Assistant who won "RA of the Month" in his very first month, and a familiar, friendly voice at the university call center.

He has spent his college career helping other students stay in school, but now, he is the one at risk of being despaired of finishing strong.

A Journey Defined by Resilience
Breon’s path has been a gauntlet of unforeseen trials. While maintaining his grades and leadership roles, he has carried weights that would break most:

Here are a few of the series of events that have been instrumental in what seems to be the financial road block.

A Mother’s Battle: In his second year, he received the news that his mother was diagnosed with cancer. Through the fear and the distance, Breon kept studying.

A Medical Crisis: Last year, a severe gym accident left Breon’s thumb shattered, requiring a $100,000 surgery. While insurance covered the bulk, he was left with a $5,000 bill he simply cannot pay.

The Final Hurdle
Breon is not someone who asks for handouts, he is a worker. He has stayed on campus for two consecutive summers, working two jobs at a time to bridge the gap.

His father, a fisherman back in the Bahamas, who has sacrificed everything he possibly can to keep his son’s dream alive. But between the medical debt, international tuition, and the rising costs of living, the well has run dry.

Because of an outstanding balance, Breon is currently barred from participating in the graduation ceremony that will take place in May, 2026.

After surviving a hurricane, fighting through family illness, and working tirelessly for his campus community, the thought of not being allowed to walk across that stage is heartbreaking.
He has come too far to be stopped by a balance sheet.

How You Can Help
Breon’s journey doesn't end here. He has already been working towards pursuing his MBA in Data Analytics, but he cannot move forward until this chapter is closed.

We are raising funds to cover:
  • Remaining tuition balances
  • Outstanding medical bills from his surgery
  • Essential graduation expenses

Every dollar is a vote of confidence in a young man who has never given up.

Let’s show Breon that his hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Let’s make sure this survivor, leader, and friend gets to hear his name called this May.

Please donate and share. Help us get Breon across the finish line.
