From Homelessness to Hope: Shane's Story

Despite being dealt one devastating blow after another, I've remained determined to rebuild my life and pursue my passions for writing, art, and software development. My Story:

Since 2018, my life has been a never-ending struggle. I lost my mom to a surprise cancer diagnosis, and just 18 days later, I was hit by a drunk driver, nearly losing my own life. The same year, I was struck again by another distracted driver. The cumulative trauma led to a deep depression, resulting in a brief hospital stay at the end of 2019. The pain didn't stop there; I lost my dad at the end of the COVID lockdown, after he had spent several years in a nursing home.

As I navigated these dark times, I found myself without a stable home, forced to live in my car for extended periods. The harsh conditions took a toll on my physical health, causing my legs to swell and eventually leading to a severe infection that landed me in the hospital. I endured multiple episodes of sepsis shock, including one instance where the nurses had to rush for the crash cart. I underwent emergency surgery on my leg and fought off multiple organ failures.

After spending a month and a half in three different hospitals, I was given a stark warning: sleeping in my car is no longer an option, as it could be deadly. I'm now on the edge of heart failure and must manage my severe central sleep apnea to avoid further complications. The urgency to gain stability is palpable, and I'm running out of luck. My next near-death experience may not end well.
