My name is Emily. I am a college student, born and raised in the South. I recently found a loving, gentle doggo on the side of the highway. I picked him up after watching him scavenge for food with no collar or home in sight. He was frightened and shaking when I first walked to him. I could see his ribs from where I stood. Fortunately for us both, I had a small portion of almond butter pretzel bites in my car. With the help of those pretzel bites and a little patience, I was able to get him into my car.

I’ve always loved animals, and the decision to pick him up was a fast one with little forethought. After getting into the car, I realized I had a 55 pound stray in my backseat that I had no idea what to do with. After a short car ride, a call to my best friend, and a stop by PetSmart for a leash and some kibble, my friend, doggo, and I ended up at the vet. I had them run a few tests and cover the basic shots.

And here comes the reason for this GoFundMe: his heartworm test came back positive, and after talking to the vet, the best option for doggo is an expensive treatment. I wasn’t surprised, but I also wasn’t expecting to spend upwards of a thousand dollars on vet bills.

The thing is, doggo – who I have now named Finn – is such a sweet soul. I’d really like him to get the treatment he deserves to live a healthy and safe life.
