Hi, my name is Evelyn Santos, and I’m creating this fundraiser for my mom on behalf of my dad and siblings.

In February, our entire world changed. We had to beg our mom to go to the hospital after her face became so swollen she could barely open her eyes, and her feet were filled with fluid. That’s when we got the news: her kidneys were only functioning at 20%. She was in kidney failure.

My mom has had diabetes most of her life, but unmanaged health complications led to Lupus, which ultimately attacked her kidneys. She spent three weeks in the hospital and now will have to depend on dialysis to survive.

Unfortunately we can’t help her here in SC where we reside so we had to make the heartbreaking decision for her to move to California to live with her parents. My abuelitos (who are also diabetic and already receiving good care) are helping support her through this.

One of my little brothers went with her so she wouldn’t be alone. The rest of us miss them more than we can explain. We’re doing everything we can, but dialysis is expensive and will have to be ongoing for the rest of her life. We’re asking for help so she can keep getting the treatments she needs and, hopefully, come back home soon.

My dad is the sole provider for our family. He has worked tirelessly to support us our whole lives and covering these growing medical costs, is simply too much. The cost of dialysis, medication, and basic care adds up quickly. That’s why I’m doing everything I can to help. Including starting this fundraiser. I just want to take some of the weight off his shoulders.

Shes only 35 still so young and a mother of 5. We still need her here with us. We’re holding onto hope because losing her is not something we can accept.
