Greetings!
My Road to the 2028 Olympics My name is Yariel Soto Torrado, a professional decathlete from Hatillo, Puerto Rico, and I have the honor of representing our island on the international stage. My ultimate goal is to represent Puerto Rico at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
After years of work, that dream is becoming closer and more realistic and the upcoming 2027 season will be one of the most important seasons of my career.
After graduating from the University of Arkansas in 2024 as a three-time NCAA All-American, I moved to Portugal to continue pursuing my dream at the highest level. I now train under my coach, Mário Aníbal, while continuing to represent Puerto Rico internationally.
A Breakthrough 2026 Season:
The 2026 season was a major step forward in my career. I set a new personal best of 8,124 points in the decathlon, becoming only the second Puerto Rican in history to surpass 8,000 points. I won the Wiesław Czapiewski Memorial, a World Athletics Combined Events Tour Gold-level competition in Poland. I then went on to win gold in the decathlon at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, representing Puerto Rico at the top of the podium. As a result of this season, I am currently ranked #32 in the world in the men’s decathlon.
2027:
The Next Big Step The upcoming 2027 season brings some of the biggest opportunities of my career. I have already qualified to represent Puerto Rico at the 2027 Pan American Championships in Lima, Peru. I will also be pursuing qualification and competing at the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China. Throughout the season, I will compete in a World Athletics Combined Events Tour decathlon, where I will have the opportunity to earn valuable ranking points and strengthen my position in the qualification process for the World Championships and the 2028 Olympic Games.
My Journey
My journey in the decathlon started when I was 17 years old. By my senior year of high school, I had become the #1 high school decathlete in the United States and the Americas, as well as a New Balance champion and record holder. I became the 2018 NACAC U20 Decathlon Champion, went on to compete at the University of Arkansas, and became a three-time NCAA All-American, an SEC Indoor Heptathlon Champion, and an SEC Outdoor Heptathlon runner-up. I have also earned international medals representing Puerto Rico and, most recently, became a 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games champion.

❤️ Why I’m Asking for Your Help
Competing internationally as a professional decathlete comes with significant expenses — international travel, accommodation, training camps, coaching, equipment, competition fees, transportation, recovery, and sports medicine. Because I train in Portugal while representing Puerto Rico, I have to travel internationally throughout the season to compete against the world’s best. Your support will help me continue training and competing at the level necessary to pursue my goals in 2027 and 2028. This fundraiser isn’t just about one competition. It’s about giving me the opportunity to continue building on the progress I’ve made and represent Puerto Rico at the biggest stages in our sport. I started this journey as a kid from Hatillo with a dream.
Today, I’m ranked #32 in the world, I’ve broken 8,000 points, I’ve won a Central American and Caribbean Games gold medal, and I’ve qualified for the 2027 Pan American Championships. The next goal is bigger: Lima 2027 Beijing 2027 Los Angeles 2028 If you choose to support me, thank you for believing in my journey and helping me represent Puerto Rico around the world. From Hatillo to the world.
