From Gaza to Griffith: Help Momin Access Education

My name is Aoife Doherty, and together with friend and former UNICEF advocate Mayke Huijbregts, we are launching this urgent fundraiser for our dear friend Momin Isefan — a gifted, warm-hearted, and resilient young man from Gaza, Palestine, whose one and only chance at a future through education is on the line right now. 

Momin Has Been Accepted to Study in Ireland — But He Can’t Afford to Go    

Despite living under siege, with his world crumbling around him, Momin dared to dream of a life beyond war. He applied to study Data Science in Ireland, but due to the ongoing conflict and lack of recognition for Palestinian qualifications, he was rejected.

Incredibly, Griffith College in Cork saw his potential and offered him a place on their Foundation Degree in Computer Systems — a critical pathway to eventually accessing full university education. But unless we raise €6,000 by June 30th, he will lose this chance forever. 

From Gaza to Cairo — and Still Fighting to Survive

Momin's family home in Gaza was obliterated in a bombing. The university where he once studied — where he dared to dream of a future — was also destroyed. Everything he built, everything he hoped for, turned to ash in a matter of seconds

Momin recently escaped the horrors of war in Gaza and is currently living in Cairo, Egypt. But safety is not the same as stability. Life in Cairo is harsh — he’s alone, living with uncertainty, with no legal right to work, no permanent home, and barely enough to cover daily expenses. 

Cairo is not a refuge; it is a holding cell. He has fled war only to find himself trapped in a slow, grinding crisis with no end in sight.   

Ireland is not a choice — it is his only lifeline. He has been offered a rare and fragile opportunity to rebuild through education, to reclaim his future. But the clock is ticking. That door will close in a matter of weeks. If we don’t act now, it will slam shut — and with it, the last light of hope he has left.

This is not just another scholarship application. This is Momin’s one shot to escape a future shaped by bombs, rubble, and occupation. The money raised will go toward: 

• Tuition fees 

• Visa processing 

• Flights and essential travel costs 

• Basic living expenses to help him settle safely in Ireland 

Without this support, Momin’s dream dies at the border. 

Why This Matters

Momin has lived his entire life in Gaza, surviving war after war. He has studied by candlelight during blackouts, risked his life to sit for exams, and held on to hope when hope felt impossible. He has the drive. He has the intelligence. He has the place at college. What he doesn’t have is €6,000.
