Making up for my 30th… one slightly questionable decision at a time
I turned 30 during lockdown in 2020 — so celebrations were pretty non-existent. No party, no big moment… just me at home (probably in pyjamas)
When I turned 35 in November past, I thought right - let’s do something now before I’m the wrong side of 35.. !
So here I am, deciding there’s no better time than now to do my bit and put my big girl pants on in support of my dad’s wingman, Duncan, and his fundraising efforts for Friends of ANCHOR and BRAVE 2026!
After 5 years in remission from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, he’ll be strutting his stuff (and no doubt swinging his kilt - let’s hope he’s got his pants on!) down the catwalk to give back to this incredible charity…
⸻
This time last year, I couldn’t swim at all.
Not a little bit — not badly — just… not at all.
After a year of lessons, determination and swallowing a fair bit of pool water along the way, I’ve learned a whole new life skill — something I’m really proud of
So from the 27th April - 24th May 2026 I’m taking on a swim challenge…
For every swim session I complete, I’ll be swimming 35 lengths — a little nod to turning 35 and how far I’ve come (and also a great way to question my life choices halfway through each session ).
And then… the grand finale.
To round it all off, I’ll be taking on gorge walking AND zip lining in Aviemore — because clearly I didn’t feel challenged enough already
Gorge walking involves scrambling over rocky riverbeds, sliding down natural water chutes and jumping into fresh Highland pools… all whilst getting absolutely soaked (as if the pool wasn’t enough).
And the zip line will have me flying through the trees, over waterfalls and cliffs, finishing on a 15m high zip tower… which, as someone who isn’t a fan of heights, will be interesting to see if my feet actually leave the platform..!
⸻
I’m doing all of this to raise funds for Friends of ANCHOR — an incredible charity supporting cancer and haematology patients and staff at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Every penny I raise I will be donated in to Duncan’s Friends of ANCHOR ‘JustGiving’ fundraising total.
This is for people close to my heart —
✨ Duncan (BRAVE 2026)
✨ Eileen (Courage on the Catwalk 2024)
Billy & Les, always in our hearts
⸻
I don’t have a fundraising target — because every single penny truly makes a difference.
If you’re able to donate or share, I’d be so grateful
(and I’ll let you know if I make it off that zip tower without being pushed )
