"When you give a child the tools to learn, play, and dream, you transform an entire community."
Dear Friends and Supporters,
My name is Jelina Haines. In 2013, standing amid the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan in Barangay Benolho, Leyte, Philippines, I made a personal promise to the children of my childhood homeland: that disaster would not define their future, and that poverty would not steal their education.
Out of that moment, SunRay Literacy Charity (SLC) was born in 2014.
What began as an urgent response to a natural disaster has grown into a 12-year movement of resilience, community leadership, and hope. Through local partnerships including our long-standing work with the CSG Kapteens Youth Basketball Team we have delivered educational supplies, sports mentorship, nutritional support, and health checkups to more than 1,700 children and families.
The Challenge We Face Today
In rural communities like Benolho, many young people face severe economic barriers. Families often must choose between basic daily necessities and purchasing school supplies or athletic gear. Without regular nutrition, sports outlets, and educational materials, bright young minds risk falling through the cracks.
We believe every child deserves a light to guide their path, thrive and rise above adversity. That is why we are raising $10,000 to sustain and expand our frontline educational, health, and sports programs over the next two years.
What Your Donation Accomplishes Immediately
Every dollar donated goes directly to funding frontline programs in Leyte, Philippines:
