Help Richard Recover & Rebuild After a Life-Altering Injury

We never imagined we would be writing these words, but life can change in an instant. On Tuesday morning, our dad, Richard, suffered a devastating fall that left him with a fractured neck and back injuries. What followed was nothing short of terrifying—emergency surgery, complications, his heart stopping twice, and going into a short-term coma. All very difficult to see your loved one going through.

By God’s grace and through the hands of skilled doctors and nurses, Dad is still with us today. We know this is nothing less than a miracle. Our family has felt the power of prayer carrying us through each moment, and we continue to cling to the hope that God is not finished with Richard’s story. If you know him, you know this well.

While we are so thankful for his life, the road ahead is long and filled with challenges we cannot face alone. Dad’s life has changed dramatically. Richard will no longer be able to work or earn extra income for the foreseeable future. Though technically retired, he’s always been relentless at providing for his family, and those extra funds he was bringing in helped us get by. His recovery will require ongoing care and significant changes to our home and family life.

Just yesterday, we felt a glimpse of hope when Dad was taken off the ventilator. But soon he began struggling to breathe and had to be placed back on the ventilator due to respiratory failure. Today, he is being transferred to a specialized ICU in Little Rock where a respiratory team will perform a bronchoscopy to clear his lungs and treat the pneumonia they have discovered in his right lung. We are praying this is the first big step toward healing.

Our mom recently started a new job as the Early Childhood Director at a Lutheran church and school in Little Rock. She is doing everything she can to keep our family steady, but she cannot provide the 24/7 care Dad will need, especially while also caring for our grandmother who lives with us. As a family, we are leaning hard on God’s strength and the support of our community.

How You Can Help

Home Renovations – Dad’s bedroom is upstairs, and stairs are no longer an option. We need to convert the garage into a safe, first-floor living space where he can be cared for safely.

Medical & Recovery Expenses – While Medicare covers some costs, there are already many unexpected expenses—from emergency transport to uncovered post-surgical needs—that fall on the family.

Loss of Income – Social Security helps a little, but it doesn’t come close to covering living expenses, let alone the new challenges ahead.

Ongoing Support – Many of you have asked how you can help. Right now, the best way is through financial support, prayer, and sharing Richard’s story.
