From Couch-Surfing to Home: We Need Your Help

Donation protected
The last few months have been incredibly challenging. In December of 2024, I injured myself at work. At first, I thought it was a simple sprain, but months later, I still experience intense pain because there is something wrong with my ligaments. When the injury happened, I and my coworkers thought I would receive workers comp. However, I was denied, and nothing came of the appeal process.
While I was trying to heal, I could not work. A month later, my rent was raised, but I did not have the funds to pay it without accruing late fees every month. I work in education in North Carolina, and I did not have that funds to pay $1,300 every month. After talking to my leasing office, they said the best option would be to turn in my keys. However, I was still responsible for paying rent until someone rented my apartment. Because of this, I was unable to rent anywhere else. I spent the first half of the year bouncing from couch to couch of fellow coworkers and friends, which was not easy to do with a puppy.
Fortunately, in April, I was able to find a place to sublease until July 2025. However, this is not a permanent solution because it is student housing. I have a roommate who is not a fan of me having a dog, and I am not a fan of waking up with horrible headaches because of the large amount of weed she and her nonpaying boyfriend smoke everyday. The scent is starting to get on my belongings, which is not ideal for someone working in education.
I have found a home for us to move into when the sublease is up, but it requires a $900 deposit, which is the price of rent when we move in. With paying for the current rent, a car note, and other bills, I do not have a spare $900. I am working two jobs, but once school is out in June, I would not get a paycheck for 2 months. I am also a server at a restaurant, but we are in a slower season since the college kids have left and construction is all around us.
It is really hard for me to ask for help, but this is the final hurdle to get my puppy and I into a home long term (as in, for the next several years). If you are able to help, I appreciate it. If not, I simply thank you and ask for a prayer.
