What began as a routine rescue turned into a heartbreaking emergency.
Poppy had been chained up, emaciated, and covered in scars—her embedded collar had caused deep lacerations. While she was tied and defenseless, she went into heat and was repeatedly attacked by roaming male dogs.
We were alerted to her condition and arranged to pick her up the next day—but in those 24 hours, tragedy struck: she was hit by a car. Her femur is now shattered.
She’s too malnourished to undergo surgery immediately. She’ll need 3–6 weeks of rehabilitation before she’s strong enough for an amputation, which will be her only option due to how the bone will begin to heal. After that, she can’t return to the streets.
So—welcome SARA’s newest rescue, Poppy!
Expenses:
• Initial emergency vet visit & x-rays
• Vaccines, bloodwork, parasite treatment, sterilization
• Amputation surgery
• 3–4 months of recovery care
And that’s just the beginning. Poppy will need a special-needs home, likely abroad. But this sweet, gentle girl wants to live. For likely all of her 1–2 years, she’s known only neglect and pain. Now she deserves safety, love, and comfort—maybe for the first time ever.
Please help us give Poppy her second chance.
