Hello everybody, my name is Joyful, and I run Eco-Washing (Canterbury Road) Laundrette in Kidderminster.
This fundraiser is more than just washing clothes - it's about building a welcoming community space and using a simple idea to support a powerful cause.
I'm launching a community cycling challenge based on the distance between Cape Town, South Africa and Kidderminster, UK - approximately 9,650 km. Instead of one person covering that distance, we're inviting the local community to contribute kilometres together, at their own pace, over two months.
Each kilometre represents a connection - between places, people, and purpose.
Why Cape Town?
My favourite tea is Rooibos (Redbush), which comes from South Africa. Every time I make a cup of tea here in Kidderminster, it has travelled thousands of kilometres before it reaches us.
This challenge represents that journey. The distance from Cape Town to Kidderminster is roughly the same distance my tea travels to reach this community. By cycling it together, we're turning an everyday cup of tea into a story about connection, movement, and community.
What We're raising Money for: A Coffee & Tea Machine for the laundrette, without forgetting some biscuits.
Laundrettes are waiting spaces. A hot drink can make that wait warmer, more social, and more human.
The coffee/tea machine will :
- improve the experience for our customers
- Encourage conversations and connections
- Help make the laundrette a true community hub
This isn't about luxury - it's about care and dignity in everyday spaces.
Supporting Guide Dogs for Deaf/Blind people
Once the cost of the coffee/tea machine is covered, all additional funds raised will be donated to sponsor a guide dog for the deaf to be trained.
This charity trains hearing dogs
- Alert deaf/blind people to important sounds
- Increase independence and safety
- Reduce isolation
Their work is practical, life-changing, and deeply aligned with the idea of guidance, movement, and independence, which mirrors our journey theme.
The total target distance is 9,650 km, and the local community is welcome to take part, meaning the distance will be completed collectively. Cycling can be outdoors or on stationary bikes.
Everyone can take part- no special equipment or fitness level is required.
We believe in being clear and honest.
- The first £2,000 raised will be used to purchase and install the coffee/tea machine.
- All funds raised beyond that amount will be donated directly to sponsor and train Guide Dogs for the Deaf people.
- Updates, receipts, and progress will be shared throughout the campaign
This Matters to us.
Local businesses don't just provide services - they can:
- Bring people together
- create shared experiences
- Support caused that matter
This challenge is about showing how a small local space can connect to a much bigger world.
How You Can Help:

Every contribution - big or small- helps move us another kilometre closer. Thanks to one of the customers who took a picture of me cycling for the cuppa.
