On March 13, 2025, Diego Lopez was in a horrific car accident that changed his life forever. What began as a normal drive home from CCAT Center of Cinematography Arts and Television, where he was studying video editing to grow his skills as a music producer and engineer, ended in tragedy on the 826 Northbound when a sudden tire blowout caused him to lose control and crash head-on into a concrete wall.
By all accounts, the fact that Diego survived is nothing short of a miracle.
He suffered over 17 fractures, internal brain bleeding, multiple hernias, and has lost the ability to breathe and eat on his own. He now relies on a tracheostomy to breathe and a PEG tube for feeding. His condition is critical, and his road to recovery will be long and demanding.
As if this wasn’t already heartbreaking, Diego was wheelchair-bound before the accident due to his Muscular Dystrophy SMA Type 2 condition. Now, he is completely bedridden, unable to move a single limb, and requires 24-hour care. Heavy medications keep him comfortable, but the emotional and physical toll is immense.
After multiple surgeries and ongoing treatment, the financial burden grows by the hour. From intensive care to long-term acute rehab, we anticipate months, possibly years, of hospitalization and rehabilitation.
We’re reaching out with open hearts and deep hope. If you feel moved to support Diego, any amount truly helps. If you’re not in a position to donate, please consider sharing his story or sending a prayer or message of encouragement. Knowing people care is one of the few things that continues to bring him strength.
Most importantly, take a moment today to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. For a moment, we almost lost the chance to say those words to Diego ever again.
