From Albania to home: Bluey’s story

Bluey is an abandoned, injured street dog with the gentlest soul, living alone in the mountains of Albania.
We first met Bluey while hiking at the beginning of our trip. He appeared out of no where, and followed us for over 30 minutes back to our car, despite limping on just three legs. He was covered in painful mats and fleas, yet all he wanted was love, cuddles, and a little kindness.
We couldn’t stop thinking about him.
Before flying home, we returned to the mountains hoping we’d find him again so we could get him the help he desperately needed. Amazingly, he was in the very same place, and as soon as he saw us, his whole face lit up. He was so excited to see us again. He actually smiles; he scrunches his nose and shows his little teeth, it’s ridiculously cute!
We took Bluey straight to the vet, where X-rays revealed the heartbreaking truth. He had suffered a fracture to his back leg that had healed incorrectly. Because of this, he can’t use the leg properly, and it’s causing him constant pain.
The vets gave us two options:
1) Corrective surgery to save and rebuild his leg (their recommended option).
2) Amputation
Sadly, the specialist surgery Bluey needs isn’t available in Albania.
I am aiming to raise £8k and every penny raised will go towards Bluey’s vet treatment (leg operation, neutering, worming, vaccinations, blood tests, X-rays, boarding), transport to the UK, rehabilitation and post-operative care. If, by some miracle, we exceed our fundraising target, every remaining penny will be donated to animal charities to help other dogs and cats receive the care they deserve.
Our mission is to bring Bluey safely to the UK and give him the chance to walk, run, and live pain free again, before amputation becomes his only option at the beginning of September.
Bluey has spent his life surviving. Now we’re hoping to give him the chance to truly live.
Thank you so much for reading, sharing, and supporting Bluey’s journey. Every donation, no matter how small, brings him one step closer to a life he deserves.
