Help Dawn Become a Doctor & Serve the World with Doctors Without Borders
My name is Dawn Hunt, and I was born addicted to drugs.
But that’s not where my story ends — it’s where it begins.
From Pain to Purpose
I entered this world facing a battle most newborns never have to fight. My biological mother was an addict, and I was born with drugs in my system. I grew up in chaos, and as I got older. Eventually, I was arrested during that dark chapter of my life.
But I didn’t give up on myself.
A Family Built on Love
I was adopted by two incredible people — my mother, an immigrant, and my father, a retired Black soldier. They opened their hearts and their home, adopting 8 children, while raising their own biological kids as well. We didn’t have much, but what we lacked in money, we made up for in love.
Unfortunately, there was never money set aside for my education. So I took matters into my own hands.
⚕️ Becoming a Nurse — and Dreaming Bigger
Through grit, loans, and working every spare moment I had, I put myself through nursing school. I became an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and started helping others just like I always dreamed.
But I wanted to do more. I wanted to become a doctor — to one day volunteer with Doctors Without Borders and serve communities that have no access to medical care.
✈️ A Leap of Faith to Curaçao
While waiting for my nursing license to finalize, I discovered a bridge program that could help me reach my dream. I enrolled in the pre-med program at Caribbean Medical University in Curaçao. I completed it successfully and was promoted to the full medical program.
In September 2025, I took the biggest leap of faith of my life: I packed my bags and moved to Curaçao to chase the dream I’ve worked my whole life for.
But I’ve hit a wall.
My Dream is in Jeopardy
After arriving in Curaçao, I applied for student loans — and was denied.
Now, I’m facing the heartbreaking reality that if I don’t come up with $12,000 in tuition this semester, I won’t be allowed to sit for my finals.
That means everything I’ve worked for could disappear — and so could my dream of becoming a doctor.
I still owe $17,000 in federal student loans from nursing school, and the total cost of my medical education here will be around $150,000.
But I believe if I made it this far, it’s for a reason.
I believe that people care.
I believe that my story can make a difference — and maybe, with your help, I can keep going.
How You Can Help
This semester’s tuition: $12,000 (URGENT)
Remaining student loan debt: $17,000
Total medical program: $150,000
Every dollar brings me closer to sitting for my finals, continuing school, and one day giving back in a big way through Doctors Without Borders.
Why I Won’t Give Up
I’m not supposed to be here.
I’m not supposed to be alive, clean, or educated — let alone studying medicine.
But here I am. And I won’t give up without a fight.
Please consider donating, sharing, or just sending a kind word. You never know how far a little kindness can go.
Thank you for reading my story.
Thank you for helping me keep this dream alive.
With deep gratitude,
– Dawn Hunt
