From Accountability to Recovery: Saving What Remains
This fundraiser is for someone we love deeply—a talented, thoughtful man whose life was derailed by addiction, and for the mother and partner who are doing everything we can to help him find his way back.
Before addiction took hold, Tim built a respected career as Creative Director of Politico Europe, a role he held for nearly nine years. During that time, his work was repeatedly recognized for its excellence, innovation, and—most importantly—its ethical commitment to journalism. He was known by colleagues as someone who cared deeply about truth, integrity, and the responsibility that comes with shaping public information.
Sadly, addiction does not respect talent, values, or past achievements.
During a severe struggle with methamphetamine addiction, he committed a crime—one he has pled guilty to, taken responsibility for, and does not attempt to excuse. He is currently incarcerated and actively participating in addiction-recovery programs, committed to accountability, sobriety, and meaningful change. Rebuilding will take time, but the work has begun.
While he works to heal and take responsibility, we are facing an urgent and heartbreaking challenge here on the outside.
A storage unit containing nearly everything left of his life before addiction and incarceration — personal belongings, creative work, art and memorabilia, as well irreplaceable items that also belong to his mother — is being foreclosed upon. Once gone, these pieces of his history cannot be replaced. For someone rebuilding their identity after addiction, this loss would be absolutely devastating. While things are only temporal, they also are the symbols of who we once were (and in Tim's case, who he hopes to be again).
Both his mother and I are on fixed incomes, already stretching ourselves to support him emotionally and materially during this process. We simply cannot cover this unexpected expense alone.
This fundraiser is not about denying the harm caused.
It is about preserving what remains of a life worth rebuilding, and supporting a family doing their best under deeply difficult circumstances.
If you knew him before addiction, if his work ever mattered to you, or if you believe that people who take responsibility deserve a chance to rebuild, we are grateful for any help you can offer—whether that’s a donation, a share, or simply a moment of compassion.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for helping us hold onto hope.
