Rescued, Reunited, and Ready for Love!
On Easter Monday, seven domesticated rabbits were abandoned in the woods to fend for themselves at Abbey Nature Preserve in New Hanover County.
Thanks to an incredible team of volunteers, long hours, and a lot of persistence, all 7 rabbits were safely rescued — bruises, scratches, mud, and all. It truly took an army to bring them to safety.
But their story doesn't end there — it’s just beginning.
Meet Loran and Teena, a newlywed couple who devoted countless hours to rescuing these rabbits. They have selflessly stepped up to adopt all 7 rabbits to keep them together. These rabbits are extremely bonded — separating them would have been devastating for their emotional well-being.
Now, we need your help to give these bunnies the life they deserve.

Why This Matters:
- Domestic rabbits are not wild animals. They cannot survive in the wild — they are vulnerable to predators, starvation, GI stasis (a deadly health condition), and exposure.
- Abandoning rabbits is not only dangerous — it’s cruel.
- Rabbits can make incredibly loving, intelligent pets. They can be litter box trained and live 8–12+ years with proper care.
Let’s break it down realistically. Even if they get rescue/vet discounts, rabbit care is expensive, and 7 rabbits is A LOT. Here’s a rough ballpark:
