As some of you know, I've been training for the New York City Marathon coming up on November 5th, 2017. I was originally raising money for a charity (to which I'll still contribute), but the most recent devastation in Santa Rosa has altered my plans.
Thousands of families have lost their homes during this tragedy and my heart aches for all of them. However, for this marathon, I would like to dedicate my run to 3 families that our family knows well.
Kristie Bayly was on my team at Jackson Family Wines for 2 years, and I've worked with her for 5 years. Her family (pictured above) lost their brand new home in the Mark West Springs area. They had just gotten the keys on Tuesday before the fire. This is what's left.
Emi Watanabe plays on my daughter Sydney's soccer team - her mom Kristina is a school teacher at Matanzas Creek Elementary School and Yen has subbed for her class in the past. Their family (pictured below) lost their home on Sunday in the Mark West Springs area.
Cheyenne Tucker (pictured next to Ashley, with glasses), plays on Ashley's soccer team. The Tucker family (below) lost their home in the Fountaingrove area.
My marathon is dedicated to them. Many of you have asked what you can do from afar; please consider donating to this fund, either $2 for every mile that I run (26 miles = $52) or more. Any donation helps. I will divide the funds evenly amongst the 3 families and hopefully they can get back on their feet quickly.
After the race, I will provide a status of how I ran (finishing would be great!), and what your generosity was able to provide.
In the meantime, here's a picture of my training - before the devastation, I ran a half-marathon with the cows in Petaluma.
Thank you all for considering this request.
