We’re passionate local volunteers fighting to preserve Mt Claremont Fields for you - the community. The land is zoned for Parks and Recreation purposes under the Town of Cambridge’s Local Planning Scheme. But Christ Church Grammar School, who own the fields, want the open green space turned into housing.
Christ Church want to rezone the land for Urban Development which we believe was never the intent of the original land sale in 1958, by the City of Perth, acting on behalf of the people of Perth. Christ Church say the fields are surplus to their needs but so far, despite many local sporting groups, public schools and private girls schools in the area having no playing fields to call home, they have not offered them for sale under the current Parks and Recreation zoning.
The Mt Claremont Fields border Bold Park on two sides, and provide an important bushfire buffer, as well as a green belt that helps protect the diverse flora and fauna which call Bold Park, a recognised biodiversity hotspot, home.
The loss to current and future generations would be immeasurable.
Once this precious greenspace is gone, it's gone forever!
We urgently need funds to cover costs such as advertising, specialist consultants, administration costs and legal fees - trying to stop a development of this nature is a minefield!
We are just regular mums, dads and grandparents taking on a battle to stop a very wealthy private boys school from destroying this extremely precious greenspace. Your financial support would mean we stand a better chance at saving the fields. We would be incredibly grateful.
PLEASE help us save Mt Claremont Fields!
